Scientific Advisory Board
Ruedi Aebersold   Professor of Systems Biology, Institute of Biotechnology, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zürich. He is also Professor and Co-Founder, Institute for Systems Biology, Seattle.
A pioneering proteomics researcher, Aebersold has developed key proteomics methods, including ICAT, which uses stable-isotope tags and mass spectrometry to differentiate cells in different states, such as noncancerous vs. cancerous cells, and to systematically study how cells respond to external stimuli.
Prof. Aebersold serves on the Scientific Advisory Committees of a number of academic and private sector research organizations, has received numerous professional awards, and is a member of several editorial boards in the fields of protein science, genomics, and proteomics.
Norman Dovichi   Endowed Professor of Analytical Chemistry, University of Washington.
Prof. Dovichi invented a high-throughput DNA sequencer using capillary electrophoresis and laser-induced fluorescence that was used to sequence the human genome. He pioneered single-molecule detection, and introduced the concept of molecular shot-noise. Dovichi's lab focuses on ultrasensitive techniques including single-cell proteomics.
Prof. Dovichi sits on several editorial boards, and has received many professional awards and recognitions, including the 2003 Spectrochemical Analysis Award from the American Chemical Society.
David Robinson Goodlett   Associate Professor, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, University of Washington. He also directs the Mass Spectrometry core for the WWAMI Regional Center of Excellence for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases Research.
Dr. Goodlett is a leading researcher of innovative MS proteomics techniques. His lab conducts advanced research into parallel peptide tandem mass spectrometry and FTICRMS for biological research.
Dr. Goodlett's background includes posts at Bristol Myers Squibb; Johnson and Johnson; and the Institute for Systems Biology, where he was Director of Proteomics.
Nels Olson   Senior Staff Scientist and Associate Director, Illumina.
Dr. Olson is an internationally-recognized authority on the analysis of complex chemical systems, separation science, and surface chemistry in the biotech arena. Dr. Olson's responsibilities at Illumina include Industrial Forensics and Root Cause Analyses company-wide.
Dr. Olson is a Fulbright Fellow (1999). His seven patents include fluorescent probes and analytical instruments. Prior to Illumina, Dr. Olson was a Staff Scientist at Molecular Dynamics, where he was responsible for next-generation capillary electrophoresis research. From 1997 to 1999, he was a faculty member of the Surface Chemistry Department, Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. Dr. Olson has previously held positions at Amersham Pharmacia and Molecular Probes.
Robert Synovec   Professor of Chemistry, University of Washington.
Prof. Synovec is a recognized leader in the area of multidimensional chromatography and chemometric analysis of chromatographic data. His lab has innovated many new analysis and sensor techniques, including seminal work on multidimensional gas chromatography, and the first use in metabolomics research of multidimensional gas chromatography hyphenated to time-of-flight mass spectrometry.
Prof. Synovec serves on several editorial and other boards. He is an associate editor of Talanta and serves on the editorial board of Journal of Chromatography A. In 2000 he was an Amersham Pharmacia Professor in Residence. In 1999, he was a visiting faculty member to Chiang Mai University, Thailand.
